About This Project

This old printing press factory was build around 1900, and was later used as glue factory. In 2018 it was completely renovated by Stef van der Bijl. The factory already turned into a house, but was not specious and hadlowered ceilings. To start with, all walls and lowered ceilings were removed, except for the bearing walls and the bathroom. From this open space, Stef created a house with small bedrooms that were separated by different heights and glass instead of walls. This situation gives a transparent look on the original structure of the building: a hallway (that used to be outside) with side doors to the factory. The front door was replace by a Jugendstil chapel door, and the small garden of stones got a green wall that becomes part of the interior by 3 glass doors. The old machine room turned into a wellness area with a roof terrace. Not many old details were remained in the building, but a lot of antiques has been integrated into the architecture, so that is become an own, timeless identity .
